RR Donnelley feature in Business Week
“RR Donnelley: Where Print Still Fits” was the headline in a recent online “Business Week” article by J. Duncan Moore. The article begins, “If the future of print media is dim, the outlook for the companies that actually press ink onto paper must be even darker. Newspapers are collapsing, magazines are losing advertisers, direct mail has morphed into spam, and even books may be threatened by portable electronic readers. Short-term trends—namely the economy’s skid—only add to the sense of doom.” The article continues on to extol the virtues of the industry’s largest printing company, but it’s this lead-in that reminds us that we continuously have to prompt print buyers of the relevancy of print. McCLUNG INSTALLS NEW PRINTING PRESS
Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 74 has high level of automation
(Waynesboro, VA) The McClung Companies has installed a new printing press in its recently constructed M.E. Huffman Building. It is a state-of-the-art Heidelberg Speedmaster CD 74 press with five color units and an aqueous coater.

Its most important feature is AxisControl, which allows presetting of the ink fountains from a digital file sent by the prepress department. It also has a "closed loop" inking system which maintains ink levels throughout the print run. These award-winning features give precise color control from the first approval sheet to the last sheet of the run.
"This new press is an exceptional piece of equipment," noted Dave Perkins, McClung general manager and vice president. "It offers quick set up and allows us to easily maintain consistent, vivid color throughout the run. Customers will love its consistency."
